My NH-D15 (G2) is too tall for my case because of the front fan. What can I do?

There are two common reasons this happens:

1) Your case’s CPU cooler clearance is below 168mm.

With the original NH-D15, the heatsink itself is only 160mm high but the front fan increases the height to 168mm, so the fan above the RAM can be removed to reduce the cooler height to 160 mm.

With the newer NH-D15 G2, the heatsink itself is 168mm tall, so the fan removal does not reduce the overall height. Because of this, installation is not possible in cases with less than 168mm of CPU cooler clearance.

2) You moved the front fan upward to fit taller RAM modules.

If the cooler previously fit but no longer does after raising the front fan for RAM clearance, you can either remove the front fan entirely or replace the front 140mm fan with a 120mm fan.

A 120 mm fan can be mounted in a lower position, clearing the RAM while staying within your case’s height limit. Detailed height information and replacement recommendations are available here.
